Seek Thermal Nano is a sugar-cube-sized thermal camera that plugs into the USB-C port of iPhone 15 and newer and of Android smartphones, available as Nano 200 and Nano 300. It weighs 13 g, draws power from the phone, and once you open the free Seek Nano app it shows a thermal image with a smooth 25 Hz refresh rate. Picture-in-picture mode overlays the phone camera view on the thermal image so you always know what you are looking at, and 7 colour palettes, spot measurement and automatic marking of the hottest and coldest point make analysis easy. Photos and videos are saved straight to the phone and shared from there.

Both models measure temperature from -20 to 330 °C with sensitivity below 35 mK and accuracy of ±5 °C or 5 %, have fixed focus from 30 cm to infinity, and with the macro lens focus from 5 cm to view individual components on a circuit board. Nano 200 has a 200x150 sensor and a 35° x 26° field of view, suited to close work: sockets, radiators, circuit boards and motors viewed from a metre away without losing detail. Nano 300 has a higher 320x240 sensor and a wider 56° x 42° field of view, so it covers a whole wall, roof or distribution board in one frame while keeping details legible. At home either camera finds heat leaks, draughts, water leaks, overheated sockets and pests in the walls; outdoors you will see animals in complete darkness. Which phones does Seek Thermal Nano 200 fit?
Any smartphone with a USB-C port: iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and newer, and Android phones. The camera is powered by the phone, so you plug it straight into the port, with no cable and no battery of its own, and the free Seek Nano app for iOS and Android shows the image.
Does a thermal camera see through glass?
Glass blocks the infrared that thermal imaging works on, so a window behaves like a mirror: instead of what is outside you see a reflection of your own heat. To check what is happening outside, open the window; the temperature of the glass and frame itself shows where heat escapes from the flat.
Will a thermal camera detect a water leak or damp in a wall?
Yes, indirectly: a damp patch of wall, ceiling or floor evaporates and is cooler than the dry surroundings, so it appears on the image as a darker, irregular stain. Warm water from heating leaves the opposite, a warmer trace along the pipe. The camera points to the spot and a moisture meter confirms it is water.
Will the camera see a person or animal at night?
Yes, thermal imaging registers body heat and needs no light at all, so a person, dog or deer is clearly visible in complete darkness, in shade and in tall grass. You will recognise a human silhouette from tens of metres, and the closer, the more detail.
Does a thermal camera see through walls?
The camera measures the temperature of the wall surface, and what is behind it only when it affects that temperature. That is how you see the run of hot water pipes, loaded cables, stud framing and gaps in insulation, although the camera does not physically see through the pipe or cable itself.
What will I use a thermal camera for at home?
To check where heat escapes: through windows, doors, roller shutters, the attic and thermal bridges in corners. To inspect radiators and underfloor heating loops, sockets and the distribution board, damp after a flood, a marten or rodent nest in the wall, and even whether the fridge holds its temperature. After insulating the house a second photo shows whether the contractor did the job well.
How does the camera help with the electrical installation?
A loose or corroded connection has higher resistance and heats up under load, so on the image it shows as a hot spot against cooler neighbours, before it melts the insulation. You inspect with the installation running normally, without touching live parts, and save the photo with the measurement on the phone.
How accurate is the temperature measurement?
Accuracy is ±5 °C or 5 % of the reading, whichever is greater, and the result is affected by surface emissivity, distance and ambient temperature. For comparisons, such as which connection is hotter than its neighbours or where a wall is colder, the camera is very effective regardless of those factors.
Why does shiny metal show the wrong temperature?
Polished metal has low emissivity: it emits little of its own heat but reflects the radiation around it, so it looks cooler or shows a reflection of the operator's heat. Stick a piece of insulating tape on the part you measure or paint it matt and take the reading there.
Can I measure body temperature with the camera?
The camera shows skin temperature and will point out who in a group is warmer, but ±5 °C accuracy and measuring the skin surface rather than the body core rule it out as a thermometer. Treat such a reading purely as a curiosity and check a fever with a thermometer.
What is the difference between Nano 200 and Nano 300?
Nano 200 has a 200x150 sensor and a 35° x 26° field of view, Nano 300 a 320x240 sensor and a wider 56° x 42° field, so it covers a larger area in one frame and shows more detail. Measurement range, sensitivity, accuracy, 25 Hz refresh, app, dimensions, weight and USB-C compatibility are the same in both models.
What is the macro lens for?
The macro lens moves the focus point from 30 cm to 5 cm, so you can see the temperature of a single chip, resistor or track on a circuit board, and of small HVAC components. You fit it on the camera in a second and remove it when you return to normal work; it fits in the case together with the camera.
What do picture-in-picture mode and the colour palettes give me?
Picture in picture combines the thermal image with the phone camera view, so you see at once which socket or which pipe is hot, without guessing from shapes. Seven palettes, from rainbow to black and white, let you match contrast to the scene: a palette with highlighted hot spots for electrics, greyscale for night observation.
Can I record video and make a report for a client?
Yes, the app saves photos and videos with the thermal image and temperature readings straight to the phone memory, from where you send them by email or messenger. Spot measurement and the automatic marking of the hottest and coldest place on screen go onto the photo, so the client sees the same thing you do.
What temperature range does the camera measure and what is it enough for?
From -20 to 330 °C, which covers a freezer, walls in winter, radiators, hot water pipes, sockets and terminals, a frying pan, a grill, an exhaust manifold and brake discs after a drive. For industrial furnaces and foundries the range is too small; for home, workshop and car it is enough with margin to spare.
What does thermal sensitivity below 35 mK mean?
It is the ability to distinguish a temperature difference smaller than 0.035 °C. That is why the image shows a faint thermal bridge, a shadow of damp on plaster or a handprint on a table minutes after the hand was removed, things you would never find with a thermometer.
From what distance will the camera measure temperature?
You can see a warm object from far away, but measure it accurately only when it fills several pixels of the sensor. Measure a socket or terminal from up to a metre, a radiator or wall from a few metres, and use the macro lens for small components. Focus is fixed from 30 cm, so closer than that the image without the macro lens will be blurred.
Does thermal imaging work in smoke, fog and rain?
Thermal imaging penetrates smoke well, which is why firefighters use it. Dense fog and heavy rain are water droplets that absorb infrared, so range and contrast drop, but nearby warm objects remain visible. Protect the camera itself from water and keep it in the case on the way.
Is the camera useful in the car and workshop?
Yes, in seconds you compare brake disc temperatures after a drive, find a cylinder working differently from the others, a cooling system leak, an overheating bearing or a cold cell in the battery, without touching hot parts. In an electronics workshop the macro lens finds a short on a board by the component heating up.
Why does the camera click from time to time and the image freeze for a moment?
That is automatic calibration: a shutter briefly covers the detector to equalise the reading of all pixels and keep measurement accuracy, especially after a change in ambient temperature. The click lasts a fraction of a second and is normal operation, not a fault.
